Samsung Galaxy Note 9 to have In-Screen Fingerprint Sensor

Samsung is expected to release its next generation Galaxy Note 9 in February 2018 and the device could have an "under-display optical fingerprint sensor," according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who's built a reputation for correctly predicting many of Apple and Samsung's moves. The feature would let users unlock the device by placing their finger on a certain part of the screen.

That's a feature that Apple tried to include in the forthcoming iPhone X, the Wall Street Journal previously reported . Apple ended up ditching it earlier this summer as deadlines approached. The iPhone X will instead have Face ID, a new facial recognition technology that takes advantage of custom 3D sensors.

If this report turns out to be true, it sounds like the days of the awkwardly placed fingerprint sensor on Samsung devices will be short-lived. What do you think of this new technology? Do you prefer the fingerprint sensor on the back or front of the device? Let us know in the comments.
