Is the Windows Phone Dead? - Microsoft finally admitted that it is

As pundits and observers have claimed for a while now, as far as Microsoft is concerned, Windows 10 Mobile is more or less on life support. Belfiore today clarified that Microsoft will continue to push out bug fixes and security updates for the platform but if you're holding out any hope for new features or hardware, you really shouldn't.

Joe Belfiore, Corporate Vice President in the Operating Systems Group at Microsoft in a series of tweets has revealed that Microsoft is no longer developing new features or hardware for Windows 10 Mobile.

This news from the Microsoft executive seems to echo the sentiments of various analysts who believed that the company may just exit the hardware business, to focus on software. Interestingly, there have recently been a bunch of rumors suggesting a Surface Phone in the works, however based on this tweet it certainly doesn’t sound that way anymore.

  1. I hope that's just the end of the separate WM branch, and that Andromeda will bring the desktop Windows with phone functions. Ideally with the possibility to upgrade Lumias 950 and HP Elite x3 to it.

    1. There is already speculation that perhaps Andromeda OS we’ll see on the heavily rumored Surface Phone. Although expecting a new device to pitch up running this OS in 2018 would be wildly optimistic.
