Apple acknowledges iPhone 8 swollen battery issue and is looking into it

Over the past few weeks, a handful of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus buyers have reported issues of the battery swelling and causing the screen of the phone to detach from the frame.

Apple on Friday said it is "aware and looking into" the matter concerning battery problems that were reported on some units of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. It isn't clear if the issue has plagued a whole batch of iPhones - like it was with the Galaxy Note 7.

The phones don't appear to overheat or catch fire, as the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 did. The battery simply swells, causing the phone's casing to open and the front screen to detach.

One of the first reports came from woman in Taiwan, who bought iPhone 8 Plus and started to notice the smartphone bulging after just three minutes of charging. That report says the woman used the charging adaptor included in the packaging.

Later, several iPhone 8 Plus buyers tweeted out photos of the problem. In Japan, Magokoro0511 reported that the phone was swollen when he first opened the box.
